Welcome to our Hospitalist Program. This program provides you, our
patients, with coordinated, seamless care during your stay at
Waterbury Hospital. Our hospitalist physicians are here to care for
you around-the-clock. They work with your private doctor to deliver
the right care at the right time, and they are able to respond quickly
and efficiently to changes in your condition that may require a new
medication, test or procedure. Our hospitalists work with your nurse
to coordinate this care so that you may recover faster and go home
sooner.
Since our Hospitalist Program was launched in
2003, our patients report being more satisfied with the care they
receive. Please let us know about your hospitalist care experience.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT THE
HOSPITALIST PROGRAM
What is a Hospitalist?
Hospitalists are licensed medical doctors,
trained in internal medicine, who devote their practice to the unique
needs of hospitalized patients. Hospitalists oversee your care from
the time you are admitted to the hospital until you are discharged.
Being in the hospital can be a very stressful and emotional
experience, and it’s comforting to know that hospitalist doctors are
available to you at all times.
What are the benefits to me as a patient?
The main benefit of being cared for by a
hospitalist physician is having a doctor who is available to you
around-the-clock to make adjustments to your treatment. Some of the
duties performed by hospitalists include making necessary medication
changes, scheduling and preparing you for tests, optimizing your
medical conditions before surgery and providing pain control.
Hospitalists are always available to discuss your condition with you
and your family, and to answer any questions that you may have about
medications, test results and your overall recovery.
How does a hospitalist work with my regular
doctor?
Your primary doctor may decide our hospitalist
physicians are best suited to care for you and your health condition.
However, the use of our Hospitalist Program is optional to our
community physicians. Your hospitalist and primary care doctor support
each other by communicating at the time of your admission and by
sharing information and records that help with your treatment. During
your stay, your hospitalist provides your doctor with updates on your
condition. Once you leave the hospital, you return to the care of your
primary doctor. |
